Sooravali (Magazine)

Sooravalii (1939) was a Literary Magazine found by K.N. Subramaniam and was co-edited by the Manikodi writer KR. Gopalan. It was as a weekly, which ran for a year and targeted general public. It was stopped after a year.
History
The first issue of Sooravali Magazine was published on April 23, 1939. It contained 64 pages and was designed in crown size. 'Sooravali’ came out every Sunday and was launched to take advantage of the reading wave created in the wake of the 1939 independence uprising. In total twenty magazines were published, the last of which came out on October 15, 1939. K.N. Subramaniam intended to run this as an intermediate magazine with business intent but it failed.
Content
The magazine's content included literary discussions and other writings. It contained articles on both Indian and world politics under the names of 'Akal Vilakku' and 'Anke' (there) along with other Art forms like Music and Cinema under the name of Aayakalaigal'. The magazine had photos of Movie Stars in a smoothly printed high quality paper. Articles of the magazine was written by the writers including S.T.C. Yogiyaar, Si.Su. Chellappa, K. Paramasivam, P.S. Raamaiyah, K.P. Rajagopalan, Saalivaaganan, Ilaingaiyarkon and A.K. Jeyaraman. K. N. Subramaniam also wrote under many pseudonyms such as Mayan, Raja, Nasikedan, Devasanman, and Suyam.
Literary Space
Sooravali's attempt to run as a Commercial Magazine but failed to create any significant impact on Tamil Literature. K. N. Subramaniam also launched and ran another Intermediate Magazine called Chandrodayam, 16 years after discontinuing Sooravali.
