N. Sriram (born on August 7, 1972) is a writer of short stories and novels. He is presently working in media and lives in Chennai.

Private Life

N. Sriram was born into a farmer’s family of M. Nattarayasamy and Janaki at Nallimadam village near Dharapuram in Tiruppur district. Sriram finished his bachelors degree in co-operations.

Sriram married Radha in 2005 and they have a son Abhishek. The family lives in Anna Nagar, Chennai.

LiteraryLife

N. Sriram’s first short story Nettukattu Veedu was published in Kanaiyazhi in 1999. 'Though I have been living in the city for past 20 years for the purpose of employment, I am still writing about my association with the nature, the myths that fascinated me as a child, and the lives of everyone who lived in the village when I was a child,' says N. Sriram about his literary journey.

Sriram's stories are about people and their experiences that we encounter, told without exaggeration, in a backdrop of landscapes narrated closely to the reader.

Sriram mentions the literary pioneers Vannadasan, Nanjil Nadan, S. Ramakrishnan and Jeyamohan as who influenced his literary work.

Sriram's first collection of short stories Velivaangum Kaalam was published by Kanavu Pattarai publishers.

Literary Significance

Sriram's works have an indispensable place in the literary contribution of the western part of Tamil Nadu. Writer Palnilavan describes Sriram's works as creates creating great ripples within readers yet flowing like a calm little stream'

While most of Sriram's stories depict the lives of ordinary villagers, the questions these stories raise about life are profound. Writer N. Murugesa Pandian notes that while writing the fiction, Sriram focused on the reality of Dharapuram locale where he was born and raised, the life, the mythology, the cultural happenings and the verbal history of the ethnicity to which he belonged.
