Karuvoor Kizhar was a poet from Sangam Literature. One his songs is part of Kuruntokai.

Note: Kuṟuntokai is a classical Tamil poetic work and traditionally the second of the Eight Anthologies in the Sangam literature. The collection belongs to the akam (love) category, and each poem consists of 4 to 8 lines each

Life Note

Karuvoor Kizhar was born in Karuvoor which was the capital of Cheras. Present day Karur district was then called as Karuvoor.

Literary Life

17th song of Kuruntokai was sung by Karuvoor Kizhar and it is a Kurinji Thinai song (minor genre). It comes under the portion "Thalaivan Varaividaivaithu Pirintha Kalathil Avanathu Pirivai Yattralenak Kavalaiyuttra Thozhikku, 'Thalaivanathu Natpu Kedathenbathai Yaan Arinthullen; Palar Thamakku Thondriyavattrais Solluvaar. Athanaal Yaan Uruthi Neengen' Endru Thalaivi Kuriyathu". We can understand the fact an Aquatic Plant is preferred by Elephants, the flower of that Plant blossoms in cluster at the top.
