He earned a degree in Computer Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy.
Personal Life
C. Saravanakarthikeyan married Parvathi Yamuna in a love marriage on March 9, 2008. They have two children, Gnani and Bodhi. He works as a computer engineer in Bengaluru.
Literary Life
C. Saravanakarthikeyan entered the literary world in 2007 and has since authored twenty-seven books. In a reader-poetry festival conducted by the weekly Kungumam, his poem "Oruthi Ninaikkaiyile..." was chosen by Vairamuthu as a Signature Poem, marking an early recognition of his poetic voice.
His book "Chandrayaan" a meticulously researched work that weaves together scientific insight and historical narrative on India's first lunar mission, was awarded the Best Book Award (Technology category) by the Department of Tamil Development & Information.
Saravanakarthikeyan's essays traverse four broad intellectual terrains: popular science, cinema, politics, and sociology. His serialized chronicle of Indian rocketry, "Aagayam Kanavu Abdul Kalam Vignanam" originally published in Kungumam magazine, was later released in book form by Sooriyan Publications. He has also written a full-length critical appreciation of the film 96, titled "96: Thanipperungkaadhal" rooted in aesthetic and emotional analysis.
In 2019, his constitution-centric essays were published as "Hindhi desiyamozhiyaa?", while his reflections on contemporary social and political realities appeared as "Aneethik Kathaigal" A curated selection of one hundred of his English essays was released as an e-book titled "Girls, Goddesses & Gentlewomen" in 2020.
His debut novel, "Appilukku Mun" draws inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi's experiments with brahmacharya, probing moral inquiry through fictional form. Reflecting on his literary influences, Saravanakarthikeyan acknowledges the early influence of Sujatha on his fiction and Vairamuthu on his poetry, followed by phases marked by the stylistic shadows of Charu Nivedita, Magudeswaran, and Manushyaputhiran.
Journalism
He edits and publishes the Tamil e-magazine Tamil, of which five issues have been released to date. Through its pages, he has conducted long, searching conversations with Jeyamohan, Yuvan Chandrasekar, and Perumal Murugan. These dialogues were later brought together as a single volume titled "Mummoorthigal" He has also curated a special commemorative issue foregrounding the literary contributions of Kalaignar.
Literary Significance
C. Saravanakarthikeyan has, for the most part, written with the general reader in mind. His political and cinematic essays carry the cadence of column writing.
His debut novel, "Appilukku Mun" stands out for its measured, psychologically informed, and non-judgmental engagement with Mahatma Gandhi's sexual experiments, marking it as a work of quiet importance. Equally noteworthy is "Aditha Karikalan Kolai Vazhakku" a reimagining of history that approaches the past from an oblique angle, questioning inherited narratives and reopening settled truths.
