M. Sivasubramaniam (M.S) (1929 – December 3, 2017) was a book translator and improviser. M.S translated the literary and sociological works from English and Malayalam to Tamil. M.S refined the works of Tamil writers and enriched them.
Birth and Education
M. Sivasubramaniam was born at Thirupathisaram in Kanyakumari district in 1929. The renowned writer Ma. Aranganathan was his younger brother.
Private Life
After completing his schooling from S.L.B School, Nagercoil, M. Sivasubramaniam joined as an employee of the finance department in the then Travancore state in 1947. Later, he joined in the Department of Registration, Government of Tamil Nadu and retired in 1987.

His translations of Ernest Hemingway's novel The Old Man and the Sea to Kizhavanum Kadalum, Argentine writer Sorrentino’s short stories Chastisement By the Lambs to Aattukkuttikal Alikkum Thandanai and a biography of Kerala tribal leader Janu Janu, were published by Kalachuvadu publications. His other translation works published by United Writers (Thamizhini) were Zacharias Kathaigal short stories of Malayalam writer Zacharias and Amaidhiyana Maalai Pozhudhil (Quiet Evening) a collection of English stories.
Improvisation
M. Sivasubramaniyam worked behind the scenes tirelessly as a proofreader and linguist improviser for many modern literary works. M.S proofread and improvised the works of first generation writers like Neela Padmanabhan and Sundara Ramaswamy, second generation writers like Nanjil Nadan and Thoppil Muhamed Meeran, third generation writers like Jeyamohan and fourth generation of writers like Salma.
Death
M. Sivasubramaniam passed away on December, 3, 2017 at Nagercoil.
