Isaac Arumairasan (1939) is a Tamil writer from Kanyakumari District. Isaac Arumairasan's novels and stories presented the basics of liberation theology in the name of Christian Communism.

Birth and Education

Isaac Arumairasan was born on February 19, 1939 in Nagercoil to Isaac-Mary Thangam couple. Isaac Arumairasan's father was a pastor and employee of the Confederation of Indian Churches (CSI). Isaac Arumairasan completed his high school education at Scott Christian School in Nagercoil and his BA in Economics at Scott Christian College. Isaac Arumairasan also holds a Masters Degree in Tamil from Thenthiruvithangur Hindu College, Nagercoil.

Personal Life

Isaac Arumairasan married Lilavati in 1969. While working as an instructor at Scott Christian College, Nagercoil, Isaac Arumairasan did his M.Phil at Kamaraj University, Madurai. Isaac Arumairasan later joined Marthandam Christian College (now Nesamani Memorial College) as a Tamil teacher and retired as Head of Department.

Literary Life

While studying at Hindu College, Isaac Arumairasan got into Literary world with the inspiration of Professor S. Subramaniam and Nagercoil Christ Church Pastor V.D. Sagayam encouraged him to write. In 1970, Isaac Arumairasan wrote his first poetic play 'Mullaimaadam', his short stories were published in magazines like Anil, Anna, Kannadasan, Deepam and Tamarai. Isaac Arumairasan won a prize for his story 'Kakkaikkoodu' written in Kannadasan magazine. In 1975 his first novel 'Keeralgal' novel got released and revolved around the concept of Christian Communism. Isaac Arumairasan further improvised the concept of Christian Communism and written novels like 'Alukku' and 'Valiyaveedu'.

Demise

Isaac Arumairajan passed away on November 07, 2011.

Literary Place

Isaac Arumairasan wrote in condemning corruption and repression within Christian organizations and argued that Christianity was the first form of Communism. The concept Christian Communism is the forefront of his novels, though they are Propagandas of nature, he was known to be the first person to have found it. Isaac Arumairasan is also a pioneer of the thought later known as Liberation Theology.
