Isaac Arumairasan completed his high school education at Scott Christian School in Nagercoil and got his BA in Economics from Scott Christian College. He also holds a Masters Degree in Tamil from South Travancore Hindu College, Nagercoil.

While studying at the Hindu College, Nagercoil, inspired by his professor S. Subramaniam, Isaac Arumairasan started reading literature. The pastor of Nagercoil Christ Church V.D.Sahayam encouraged him to write. In 1970, Isaac Arumairasan wrote his first verse drama, Mullaimaadam. His short stories started coming out in magazines including Anil, Anna, Kannadasan, Deepam and Tamarai. Isaac Arumairasan won a prize for his story Kakkaikkoodu published in Kannadasan magazine.
