Kanavalan Koottam / Kanavalan Kulam: This is one of the sub-groups of the Kongu Vellalar Gounder community. It can be designated as a clan too. The name may have come from the word “Kanam” which means congregation in Tamil. This name may have also come from the place name Kannapuram where they originally belonged.
