Kanavalan Koottam / Kanavalan Kulam: This is one of the sub-groups of the Kongu Vellalar Gounder community. It can be designated as a clan too. The name may have come from the word “Kanam” which means congregation in Tamil. This name may have also come from the place name Kannapuram where they originally belonged.

Refer Kongu Vellalar Community

Kannapuram is the main land of the Kanavalan kootam people. The inscriptions of Parasekari and Rajasekarivarman at Tiruchengode speak of the personnel who performed the temple work unitedly as Kannaperumakkal.

Kongumandala Sadhagam mentions the valour of Nallaya Goundan of the Kanavalan Kulam.

According to the inscription at the temple, all the work of Kundrathur temple was carried out by the Kanavalan Kulam people.
