Vishnupuram Literary Circle is a literary organization formed by Tamil writer Jeyamohan's readers and friends. It is named after Jeyamohan's notable novel "Vishnupuram". The organization was formed in 2010 with Coimbatore as the base location. KV Arangasamy is the general coordinator and Senthilkumar is the coordinator for the Vishnupuram awards. A network organization based in the United States is being coordinated by Soundararajan Varathappan
Objective
The Vishnupuram Literary Circle aims to spread connoisseurship of literature. It seeks to spotlight, promote and create critical attention for high-quality literary works and writers. Towards this purpose, the circle conducts literary meetups, symposiums and award events.
Genesis
On January 26, 2010, a literary meetup with writer Jeyamohan was organized in Coimbatore by his readers and friends. It was coordinated through the efforts of KV Arangasamy, Arun and Marabin Maindhan Muthiah. The friends gathering was held at the Annalakshmi restaurant in Coimbatore in the morning, followed by the main meetup at Kovai Sanmargha Sangam in the evening. The audience registration numbers and the admission fund exceeded the expectations of the organizers. It was decided to utilize the remaining funds to create a literary organization, and to name it after Jeyamohan's famous novel Vishnupuram. It was decided to name the organization after the novel, Vishnupuram, so as to make sure the organization doesn't have a local identity and to make it clear that it's a readers' association.
On May 10, 2010, Vishnupuram Literary Circle's first literary meetup was organized in Coimbatore for poet Kalapriya. It was also decided that a literary award should be given in the same year. In December 2010, A. Madhavan was awarded the first Vishnupuram Award.
Operation
The Vishnupuram organization has been functioning as an association of friends with no definite written rules or person in-charge. There are no designated Chairman, Secretary or Treasurer. For the purpose of financial transactions, Vishnupuram Trust has been set up.
Literary Works
Vishnupuram Literary Circle has been functioning to carry out four categories of literary activities, Literary Awards, Literary Seminars, New Readers Meetup and Tamil Wiki Online Encyclopedia.
Two Literary Awards are presented by Vishnupuram Literary Circle. The Vishnupuram Literary Award is presented annually to a senior literary personality for their overall contribution. This Award Ceremony takes place in December in Coimbatore. This Award has been given since 2010. Vishnupuram - Kumaraguruparan Award is given to a budding young poet in the honor of late poet Kumaraguruparan. This award ceremony takes place in the month of June in Chennai.
Vishnupuram Literary Circle has been regularly conducting literary meetups. Every year Guru Nitya Kaviya Arangu takes place in Ooty Narayana Gurukul. It occurs in the memory of Guru Nitya Chaitanya Yati. Apart from this, literary gatherings and seminars are organized to honor various literary writers.
Vishnupuram Literary circle organizes meetups for New Readers three times a year in different cities across Tamil Nadu. This is to give an opportunity to the new readers to meet with Writer Jeyamohan and others and also to present and discuss their literary works.
Since May 7, 2022, Tamil Wiki Online Encyclopedia has been launched and work in progress under the initiative of Vishnupuram Literary Circle. The Tamil Wiki Thooran Award was announced to Tamil Scholars and Researchers from Tamil Nadu, at the launch ceremony of Tamil Wiki. The First Award was given to anthropologist Karasur Padmabharathi at Erode.
