Vishnupuram Kumaraguruparan Award, feliciated by Vishnupuram Literary Circle in honour of the late poet Kumaraguruparan, is awarded to young poets.
Genesis
Poet Kumaraguruparan passed away on June 19, 2016. The literary award in his name was initiated by the wish of his friend Kavitha Swarnavalli. The award is being given every year since 2017, for poets under the age of forty. Vishnupuram Literary Circle gives the award.
Award
The award consists of a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- and an honorary momento sculpture. The award felicitation ceremony is conducted in Chennai on the 10th of June every year, to coincide with the birthday of the late poet Kumaraguruparan. The prize amount is increased to Rs. 1 lakh from 2023.
