Pattabirama Iyer was a Carnatic musician from Nineteenth (19th) century. He had written many compositions as Javalis.

Personal Life

He was born in Thiruppanandal from Tanjore district. He started working as Gumasta (termed formed for Agent during British/East India regime). His musical skills had earned him a job at Mysore Samraj Wodeyar's court.

Music Work

Pattabirama Iyer had "Thalavan (Talam - Panai)" as mudra in his keerthanas. Getting inspired by Muthuswamy Dikshitar's usage of English Notes, he also created similar Javalis under the name of Thalavan.

His Javalis were discovered through the L P Records of singers like Kanchipuram Dhanakodi Ammal, Coimbatore Thayi, Bangalore Nagarathnammal etc.

One of his Tamil Keerthanam "Vandarulvai Sundari Manimuthu Nee" has Nine (9) stanza and is set to Hindustani Behag, Adi Talam.
