Kalki Sadasivam (T.Sadasivam) (Thyagaraja Sadasivam) was a Tamil journalist. He was founder and manager of the weekly magazine, Kalki. He was a freedom fighter and was married to the singer M.S.Subbulakshmi.

Birth, Education

கல்கி சதாசிவம்

Kalki Sadasivam was born to Thyagarajan and Mangalam in Aangarai on September 4, 1902. His parents had 16 children, he was the third. He dropped out of school in order to participate in the freedom movement.

Personal Life

Sadasivam was initially married to Abithakuchambal. They had two daughters, Radha and Vijaya. Radha is a singer. In July 1940, Abithakuchambal passed away. Sadasivam met M.S.Subbulakshmi in July 1936. On Rajaji's advice, he married her in 1940. Sadasivam and M.S.Subbulakshmi had no children.

Political Activities

1921ல் கும்பகோணத்தில் நிகழ்ந்த மகாமகம் இலக்கியம், அரசியல் இரண்டிலும் முக்கியமான நிகழ்வு. பொதுவாழ்க்கையில் பலர் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் சந்திக்க அது காரணமாக அமைந்தது. சதாசிவம் அந்த மகாமகத்தில் இருந்த காங்கிரசின் கதர் ஸ்டாலில் தேசிய இயக்கத்து தலைவர்களை சந்தித்தார். கல்கி கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தியுடன் அறிமுகம் ஏற்பட்டது. அங்கே சுப்ரமணிய சிவாவின் சொற்பொழிவைக் கேட்டு அவருடைய பாரத் சமாஜ் இயக்கத்தில் சேர்ந்து பணியாற்றினார். 1920 முதல் ராஜாஜியின் அறிமுகம் கிடைத்தது. ராஜாஜி வழிநடத்திய கதர் இயக்கத்தில் பணியாற்றினார். அப்போது ஊர் ஊராகச் சென்று தேசபக்திப் பாடல்களைப் பாடி கதர் விற்பனை செய்தார். 1922இல் தேச விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்தில் கலந்து கொண்டு சிறை சென்றார். 1923இல் கள்ளுக்கடை மறியல், அன்னிய துணி எதிர்ப்பு ஆகியவற்றுக்காகப் போராடி 15 மாத சிறை தண்டனை பெற்று சிறை சென்றார்.1930ல் ராஜாஜி உப்பு சத்தியாக்கிரகம் தொடங்கியபோது திருச்சியில் நடந்த மறியலில் கலந்து கொண்டு 6 மாத சிறை தண்டனை பெற்றார்.

The Kumbakonam Mahamaham festival of 1921 of particular importance to both literature and politics. Many prominent personalities met each other for the first time there. At that event, Sadasivam met the leaders of the nationalist movement at the Khadar stall of the Congress party. He also got acquainted with Kalki Krishnamurti. It was there that he listened to Subramania Siva's speeches, and inspired by that, joined his Bharat Samaj movement. In 1920, he was introduced to Rajaji. Subsequently he worked as part of Rajaji's Khadar movement, going from town to town, singing patriotic songs and promoting Khadar. In 1922, he went to jail as a part of the nationalist freedom struggle. In 1923, he took part in protests against toddy shops and foreign cloth, and was imprisoned for 15 months. In 1930, as part of protests in Trichy connected with the salt satyagraha initiated by Rajaji, Sadasivam was arrested and imprisoned for six months.

Journalism

1941ல் கல்கியுடன் இணைந்து கல்கி வார இதழை தொடங்கினார். 1954ல் கல்கி கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தி மறைந்தபின் முழுப்பொறுப்பையும் ஏற்று இதழை நடத்தினார்.

சதாசிவம் 1945ல் தன் மனைவி எம்.எஸ்.சுப்புலட்சுமி நடிக்க எல்லிஸ் ஆர் டங்கன் இயக்கத்தில் மீரா என்னும் திரைப்படத்தை தயாரித்தார்.
