Idangazhi Nayanar is one of the Saiva saints of 63 [[Nayanmar|Nayanmars]].
== Life ==
Idangazhi Nayanar was the king of the Velir clan at Kodumbalur, the capital of Konadu. Saivism flourished during his reign. A Shiva devotee used to feed the devotees of Lord Shiva every day there and perform Maheswara Puja. One day, when the Shiva devotee had no food to offer, he became depressed and dared to steal rice paddy in the middle of the night inside the palace of Idangazhi Nayanar. When the Shiva devotee opened the paddy barn and picked up the paddy, he was caught by the night guards. They took him to the king.
Without getting angry, King Idangazhi Nayanar asked him "Why did you steal the paddy?" To this, the devotee replied, "It is my custom to offer food to the devotees of Lord Shiva, I did this thinking that I will be deterred from offering food due to lack of ingredients today." On hearing this, Idangazhi Nayanar released him saying, "He is my bandaram".
