A.Ramasamy (February 17, 1969) Tamil literary critic. Media researcher. Theater and film critic. Educator. He has a post modernism outlook.

Birth, Education: A.Ramasamy was born on Feburary 17, 1969, to Alagarsamy and Kondammal at Thatchapatti, a small town about 20 kilometres from Usilampatti in Madurai district. He completed his primary education at Uthapuram Panchayat Union School, middle education at Elumalai Government Higher Secondary School, Madurai and secondary education at Dutley Higher Secondary School, Dindigul. After completing his Bachelor's degree in Tamil (1977-1980) from The American College, Madurai, he studied Master's in Tamil (1980-1982) at the School of Tamil Studies, Madurai Kamaraj University. He earned his doctarate from Madurai Kamaraj University on the theme of Society shown by Nayakar period - Tamil Literature.

Personal Life: After completing his studies at Madurai Kamaraj University, A.Ramasamy worked as a lecturer in Department of Tamil (1987-1989) of the American College, Madurai and the Department of Performing arts (1989-1997), Pondichery University . At Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, he worked in the Department of Tamil, as Associate Professor (1997- 2005), Professor (2005-2015) and retired as Senior Professor (2015-2019). He served as a visiting professor in the Department of Indology, University of Warsaw, Poland for a period of two years (2011-2013) and at the Ministry of Art and Culture, Government of India.

In the field of education, he served as the Head of The Department of Linguistics, Director for Ambedkariyal Centre, consulting and in charge of organizations such as Library, National Service Scheme, Publishing and Youth Welfare. He served as the member of the curriculum committees of Indian Universities and made series of attempts in creating trends in Tamil literary education, especially for modern Tamil literature, within the university curriculum. He served as an advisor for educational committees of Srilanka and Malaysian universities. He retired on June 30, 2019.

A.Ramasamy married Vijayalakshmi on June 30, 1982. He has a daughter Snehalatha and a son, Rahulan.

Educational Services: Under the guidance of A. Ramasamy, 15 students have earned Ph.D. degrees and 50 have obtained M.Phil., degree. He served as the Head of the Tamil Department, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, librarian, NSS Coordinator, Publications Coordinator and Coordinator of Manonmaniam Colleges.

He contributed to the syllabus of Pondichery, Madurai, Thiruvalluvar, Thiruvananthapuram, Gandhigramam, Avinashilingam University and Tamil Nadu school education department. He also contributed to the New Delhi National Entrance Test, the Civil Services Curriculum and Sakitya Akademi award committee. Theatrical life: When he was a student of Madurai Kamaraj University, he worked in street plays in association with the left-wing theater movement, the Madurai Real Theater Movement, from 1981 to 1989. He acted in more than 20 street plays of the Real Theater movement. He participated in the Thurkira Avalam (participation in the national drama festival by Sangeet Natak Academy), Sabam?Vimochanam! (participation in the regional festival by National Natak Acedemy) produced by that troupe.

A.Ramasamy’s first play was from Sundara Ramasamy’s story Pallakku thookigal. Followed by that Pudumaipithan’s Sirpiyin Naragam and two stories of Dileep Kumar were staged. Gyana Rajasekaran’s Vayiru, Prabanjan’s Agalya, Ravikumar’s Vaarthai Mirugam were staged. He became the teacher of Sankaradas Swamigal School of Performing Arts started in Pondichery and taught dramaturgy to the students. He wrote plays, dramaturgical commentary essays, and critical articles. Nadakangal Vivathangal, Othigai, Pathu Kurunadakangal, Munmedai, Thodarum Othikaigal, Thu.Tha.Sankaradas Swamigal - Vaazhvum Nadaka muraimayum are the drama related books written by A.Ramasamy. From 1992 to 1997, he contributed as the organiser of the Puduvai Kootukkural Nataka amaippu.
