U.Ra. Saminatha Pillai (1884 - October 23, 1958 C.E.) was a Tamil scholar, Sitrilakiyam Poet, Journalist and follower of Vedantic principles. Nellainayaki Neerottaga Malai was a very important creation of U.Ra. Saminatha Pillai.
Personal Life
U.Ra. Saminatha Pillai was born in 1884 as the son of Ramasami Pillai in Alalasundaram Pillai family in Velalar caste near Thirukkudanthai, Kumbakonam District, Tanjore. He studied schooling, and learned Sitrilakiyangal (minor Tamil literary works) U.Ra. Saminatha Pillai also learned Naidatham, Periya Puranam, Thiruvilaiyadal Puranam and other major epics along with ancient grammar texts like Nanool, Tholkappiyam from renowned teachers. He had two sons named Sivaprakasam and Sadasivam.
Work as a Teacher
U.Ra. Saminatha Pillai worked as a Tamil teacher in Chettinad. He was also the teacher to many businessmen in places like Pallathur. Saminatha Pillai was the teacher of S.A. Ramasamy Pulavar.
Spiritual Life
U.Ra. Saminatha Pillai learned Vedanta texts from Annamalai Gnanadesikar, who was the abbot of Kovilur monastery.
Literary Life
U.Ra. Saminatha Pillai was an assistant editor for Sivnesan weekly publication on behalf of Karai Sivanesar Thirukoottam in Palavankudi. He wrote many commentary articles on Lord Siva Norma. U.Ra. Saminatha Pillai was the chief editor of Thirukudanthai 'Yatharthavasani'. He wrote many songs along with many Sitrilakiyam poems.
