Vishnupuram Kumaraguruparan Award, an award initiated by Vishnupuram Literary Circle in honor of the late poet Kumaraguruparan, is awarded to young talents of Tamil poetry.
Genesis
Poet Kumaraguruparan passed away on June 19, 2016. It was his friend Kavitha Swarnavalli's wish to initiate a literary award in memory of him. The award is being given every year since 2017, for poets under the age of forty. Vishnupuram Literary Circle gives the award.
Award
The award consists of a cash prize of INR 50,000/- and a honorary hand-crafted memento. The award felicitation ceremony is conducted in Chennai on the 10th of June every year, to coincide with the birthday of the late poet Kumaraguruparan. From 2023, the prize amount is increased to INR 1 lakh.
