Ukaikkudi Kizhar was a poet of the Sangam period. His poem is in the Kurunthogai.

Private Life

Ukai is the amman pacharisi plant (Euphorbia hirta – a herbal plant). Ukaikkudi Kizhar was born in Ukaikudi, a town where Ukai plant was abundant. Kizhar was the special name given by the king.

Literary Life

Ukaikkudi Kizhar composed the 63^rd poem of Kurunthogai, one of the Ettuthogai (Eight Anthologies) books. It comes under category Paalaithinai. The Hero mentions to the mind that decided to seek wealth 'To seek and earn the wealth, you must leave your lover accompanies; it is difficult to part from her'.
