Please check these before sending the article for review

Title

  • Titles should follow this convention:
    • INITIAL-DOT-SPACE-NAME or INITIAL-DOT-NOSPACE-INITIAL-DOT-SPACE-NAME
    • Eg.: R. Shanmugasundaram, T.S. Duraisamy
  • As much as possible, avoid quotation marks in the title

Section Headings

The Table-of-contents is automatically generated by the Mediawiki software. It should not be typed up by hand.

Where the ToC is not automatically being generated, please contact the admins. They will add the necessary content tags to generate the ToC

Links

Internal links within wiki
  • All associated articles present in the wiki should be hyperlinked through internal wiki links.
    • It is not necessary to provide internal link for every occurence of the word
    • The internal link should be created for the first occurence of the word (excluding the first paragraph), and subsequently after a few paragraphs. The reader should not be forced to search for internal links
    • Any incorrect or non-existent internal links will be shown in red colour. Please check these.
External links, references

External links and references should be sorted according to this convention

  • Section named References should be the equivalent of Tamil section உசாத்துணை. This section will contain links and pointers to books, publications, external websites and other forms of external content that provide fundamental support to the entire article.
  • Section named Footnotes should be the equivalent of Tamil section அடிக்குறிப்புகள். This section will contain links and pointers to books, publications, external websites that provide support for one or a set of sentences in the wiki. These pointers will be specifically linked through numbered '<Ref> citation' templates inserted through the menu
  • Section named Links should be the equivalent of Tamil section இணைப்புகள்/வெளி இணைப்புகள். This section will contain links and pointers to books, publications, external websites and other forms of content that are considered related to the article, but not providing direct support to any content.
  • This Wiki will not have any tags or methods to point to related content in the wiki, except for Disambiguating similarly named titles
  • For References and Footnotes, only the most essential content should be provided. This wiki will not contain exhaustive list of references to content available online or offline.
  • All links to external content should be handled within above 3 types of links
  • Inline hyperlinks to external content should be avoided. The wiki is not a blog or magazine article

Order of headings

Lists

  • Generally in lists of books or awards, dot bullets should be used. Numbered bullets should not be used
    • Bullet lists should be created using menu. Should not be manually typed.
    • Numbered lists are allowed only for absolutely essential cases which require some ordinal ranking.

Letter format

  • Bold format is not allowed anywhere.
  • In articles translated into English, the subject personality or book name maybe in italics or single quotes
  • In Tamil, wherever there is a need to join words and letters a hyphen ’–’ can be included. For example ’1999-க்கு பின்’. This can be avoided in English translations

Dates

  • Dates should be in the full literal notation. Eg., December 19, 2000. These should not be shortened anywhere in the wiki
  • Month in full words, Day, Year YYYY (April 10, 2022).
  • If only month and year are present, then the format should be April 2022.
  • For personalities, Date of birth must be included. For deceased personalities, Date of Death must be mentioned.
  • Dates of birth and death must be mentioned in the first paragraph after the name and within parentheses.
  • Dates of birth and death must be mentioned again the respective sections within the article.

Time

  • Words like Currently and Now should be avoided as this is a permanent record.
  • Current age of personalities must not be mentioned.
  • Shorterning of decade names is not allowed. 'The 50s' is not allowed. 'The 1950s' is the correct way.
  • For marking historical timelines
    • Before Christ should be mentioned as BCE (Before Common Era)
    • AD should be CE (Common era)

Biography

  • The section heading is Biography. Its sub-sections Birth, Youth, Family must be filled out
  • In the Birth subsection, the names of parents, year of subject's birth must be provided
  • In the Family section, depending on the subject, the names of partners, year of marriage, names of children must be present.
  • There is no need for a separate section named Personal life. The content will be part of Biography

Checklist items

  • Typographic errors, word spelling, punctuation and grammar errors must be checked.
  • Male and female pronouns and prefix/suffixes must be checked
  • Sentences or paragraphs which have been copied or duplicated must be checked for and removed.
  • The counts mentioned in the article and lists must be tallied
  • Content copied from external sources may contain <Nowiki> tags which will suppress content in the wiki, or introduce obscene/dangerous material. This should be checked using Source editor, as the will not show up in the Visual editor.
    • Except for very long lists, copy-paste should be avoided generally.
    • It is advisable to paste such external content on editors like Notepad for proof checking for undesirable hidden tags, before again pasting on the wiki

Words to be avoided

  • Words like We, Us, Ours are not allowed
  • Phrases like can be said are vague and should be avoided
  • Pronouns like He, She, Him, Her should be avoided. Subjects' names should be used as much as possible
  • Titles and honorifics like Mr, Mrs, Thiru, Sri Smt' are not allowed
  • Tamil honorifics like Avargal are not allowed.
