Kumarimainthan

Kumarimainthan (1937 - June 3, 2021) was a Tamil scholar, cultural analyst and Tamil national activist. Kumarimainthan contended that Tamil Nadu was a separate nation with an unique ancient culture and that it should remain a separate state and its economic richness and cultural heritage were being destroyed by the Union of India.

Birth, Education

Kumarimainthan's birth name was Periyanadar. He was born at South Surangudi in Kanyakumari district in 1937. He completed his engineering course in Chennai.

Personal Life

Kumarimainthan served as a Divisional Officer (Junior Engineer) in Tamil Nadu Public Works Department for 24 years from 1960 to 1984. He then took up voluntary retirement and started his own business.

Activities

Kumarimainthan founded the Tamil Nadu Economic Rights Society, first in South Surangudi and later in Madurai and published books and pamphlets.

Death

Kumarimainthan passed away in Madurai on June 3, 2021.
