Kayamai

Kayamai (1956) is a novel written by M. Varadharasan. In this novel, the author portrays the destruction of a woman's life, whose morals are corrupted by the lust for luxurious life.

M. Varadharasan wrote this novel in 1956. His 'Thayagam' publishing house published the novel.

Synopsis

'Kayamai' is the title of an edition of Thirukkural. M. Varadharasan has written this novel to describe the ideas of Thirukkural. In this, he has named various character through the traits the characters. Characters known as Aanavar and Vaseegaram show the cunning nature of humans in this novel. This novel is about the destruction that immorality creates. The heroine Vaseegaram destroys her life by lusting after a life of luxury.

Literary Place

"Aanavar is created as a total image of the evils found in society and politics. Unkindness, knowing the weaknesses of others and acting on them, unhesitatingly lying, arrogance, cowardly mind, unconsciousness and evil, cheating, deceit in friendship, extravagance, clamor, and the life of living a life of different words and actions, in this novel, M. Varadharasan shows the various social evils of a man in a metaphor" says R. Dhandayutham (Mu.Va. Memorial edition).

Kayamai novel describes the traditional view of the necessity of morality in a new context. Storytellers are metaphors for the author's ideas. "Kayamai is an echo of his experiences as a clerk" says Dr. Viswanathan in an article in Mu.Va. Memorial edition.
