Gangapuram Palaniyammal

Gangapuram Palaniyammal (18th century CE) was a poet from the Kongu region of Tamilnadu. She was also proficient in Sanskrit language.
Oral History
Gangapuram is the oldest town in the Erode district among the Nasiyanur and Sithodu towns. There was Palaniyammal, the wife of Palaniappa Gounder in Sembakulam. One day when he returned home from the garden, he saw a man sitting in stone front of the house. On seeing Palaniyammal, he did not get up and pay his respects. Palaniyammal asked him who he was, and he said, “I am Pandi Nattu Parameswara Pulavar. He said I am a Sodasavathani (one who can multitask sixteen activities at a time). Palaniyammal thought to suppress his argument and asked, "The one who stole two goats?". Sodu means two. Asam means goat (ajam). Realizing the the expertise of Palaniyammal in understanding what he mentioned (Sodasavathani), the poet realized that she was not just a farmer but linguist and apologized.
