Susanna Emilia (Emily) Addis was a teacher in the first English school in Coimbatore. She was the wife of the school’s founder, William Bawn Addis.

Birth

Susanna was born on 2 August 1808 in Chennai, India to Tamericus Carolus van Someren.

Personal Life

Susanna married William Bawn Addis, a London Mission pastor. They had two children, Henry Bawn Addis and William Judson Addis. Willian Judson Addis became a pastor of the London Mission.

Academic service

Susanna was the first teacher in the Vernacular School, founded by the London Mission Society in 1831 at Marakkadai, Coimbatore . She ran it with her husband Rev. William Bawn Addis. In the same year another elementary school was started by the London Mission Society at Rajaveedhi, and later relocated to Union High School Street in 1898. Now it has been changed to CSI High School.

Death

Susanna passed away on February 27, 1898.
