Parankusa Dasar was a Carnatic musician from Nineteenth (19th) century. His compositions are popular in music and bhajan concerts.

Youth

Parankusa Dasar was born in the year 1828 ( Tamil year - Sarvadhari and Month - Aipasi). He was born in Saiva Velalar community. His father's name was Parakalar. His birth name is not known.

Personal Life

He was married to Vedavalli and had one son Alavandan. He considered Athidangi Venkatachariyar of Triplicane as his guru. His guru conferred him the name Parankusa Dasar which he used for rest of his life.

Music Work

His keerthanas (religious songs) were published multiple times under the name of Hari Bhajana Keerthanas. First publication had a compilation of thirty one (31) keerthanas and later sixty nine (69) additional keerthanas were added and republished with 100 Keerthanas. Many of them are written as if conveying to the listener's heart. One of them is Rama Namathai Sol Maname' (recite the name of Rama oh my heart) set to Nadanamakriya raga (scale) and triputa tala(beat).

His biography was composed as Chindu (Couplets) containing forty seven (47) kanni by Vagulabharana Dasar under the name Parankusa Dasar Vaibhava Sangraham'
