Vishnupuram Literary Circle

Vishnupuram Literary Circle is a literary organization formed by Tamil writer Jeyamohan's readers and friends. It is named after Jeyamohan's notable novel Vishnupuram. The organization was formed in 2010 with Coimbatore as the base. KV Arangasamy is the general coordinator, and Senthilkumar is the coordinator for the awards events. A network organization based in the United States is being coordinated by Soundararajan Varathappan.
Objective
The Vishnupuram Literary Circle aims to spread connoisseurship of literature, particularly in Tamil Language. It seeks to spotlight, promote and create critical attention for high-quality literary works and writers. Towards this purpose, the circle conducts literary gatherings, symposia , workshops and award events.
Genesis
On January 26, 2010, a literary meetup with writer Jeyamohan was organized in Coimbatore by his readers and friends. It was coordinated through the efforts of KV Arangasamy, Arun and Marabin Maindhan Muthiah. The friends gathering was held at the Annalakshmi restaurant in Coimbatore in the morning, followed by the main meetup at Kovai Shanmarga Sangam in the evening. As the audience registration in numbers and the admission fee exceeded the expectations of the organizers. It was decided to utilize the remaining funds to create a literary organization, and to name it after Jeyamohan's famous novel Vishnupuram. The name was chosen so as to clarify that it was not specific to any location, and that it was a readers' association.
On May 10, 2010, the Vishnupuram Literary Circle's first literary meetup was organized in Coimbatore for poet Kalapria. The organization also decided to institute a literary award that year. In December 2010, A. Madhavan was the recipient of the first Vishnupuram Award.
Organization
The Vishnupuram Literary Circle functions as an association of friends, with no definite bye-laws or officers. A separate trust named Vishnupuram Trust has been set up to handle financial transactions.
Literary Actitivies
Vishnupuram Literary Circle carries out four categories of literary activities - literary awards, conducting literary symposiums, conducting New Readers' gatherings and creating the Tamil.wiki Online Encyclopedia.
Two literary awards are presented by Vishnupuram Literary Circle: The Vishnupuram Literary Award is presented annually to a Veteran literary personality for their lifetime contribution. This award ceremony takes place in December in Coimbatore. The award has been given since 2010. Secondly, the Vishnupuram - Kumaraguruparan Award, instituted in honor of the late poet Kumaraguruparan, is given to rising young talent of Tamil Poetry. This award ceremony takes place in June in Chennai.
Vishnupuram Literary Circle regularly conducts literary meets. Every year the Guru Nitya Kaaviya Mukaam / Arangu takes place in Ooty Narayana Gurukul in memory of Guru Nitya Chaitanya Yati. The forum discusses Indian epics and poetry. Apart from this, the circle organizes various events and seminars to honor and discuss the works of literary writers.
Vishnupuram Literary Circle organizes reader's meets for readers who are enthusiastic but new to the tenets of literature, thrice a year in different cities across Tamil Nadu. This provides an opportunity for new readers to meet with Jeyamohan and other writers, and also to present and discuss their literary works.
Vishnupuram Literary Circle launched the Tamil Wiki Online Encyclopedia on May 7, 2022 and has been guiding its development. During the launch event, the Tamil Wiki Thooran Award was announced to recognize and honor Tamil scholars and researchers. The first award was given to anthropologist Karasur Padmabharathi at Erode in August 2022.
