Kamatta

Kamatta is a community festival. Since this dance is performed on festival days, it is called Kamatta kottudhal or Kamatta. It is performed as a supporting performance to Karakattam[1] in Devakottai, Karaikudi areas.
Procedure
Kamatta is similar to the dance form Kummi[2]. It is performed by Karakattam dancers and supporting dancers.
A sugarcane is placed in the center and a bonfire is built around it. Around the bonfire, karakattam dancers and the dancer dressed as clown sing and dance beating their chests. It is influenced by the Lavani[3]. This is how Kamatta is performed in Karaikudi, Devakottai areas.
On the other hand, in Salem, the festival called Kamatta lasts for 15 days. During these fifteen days Kamatta kottudhal takes place. It is similar to Kummi dance.

Kamatta is performed by Karakattam Artists and Supporting Artists. Karakatta women and Clowns dance together like Kummiyattam by going in circles.

Kamatta is a popular song in Devakottai and Karaikudi areas. It also happens to be the event of a community festival called Kamatta in Salem area.
