Jeyamohan (April 22, 1962) recrafted the Indian Tamil traditional literature in accordance with the virtues of modern times. He authored world's largest novel, Venmurasu. He is equated to Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy in the vast majority of world literature. In modern Tamil literature, he is celebrated along with great personalities like Pudhumaipithan, Jayakanthan and Sundara Ramasamy. Spiritual search and moral aphorism are the main themes of his writings. He is a stage speaker, magazine editor (Solpudithu), strict critic in the fields of art, literature and philosophy. He writes stories, screenplays and dialogues for Tamil and Malayalam film industries. He is a full-time writer in Tamil and Malayalam world. His first novel (Rubber - 1990) won the Sanskriti Samman Award. It is to be noted that the Central Government offered to award Padma Shri in recognition of his literary service.

Private Life

Birth

Jeyamohan was born to S. Bakulayan Pillai and B. Visalakshi Amma on April 22, 1962, at Arumanai government hospital.

Education

Jeyamohan studied 1st standard in Padmanabhapuram, 2nd standard at government primary school in Kottaram near Kanyakumari, and up to 5th standard in government primary school in Muzhucode. He completed 6th to 11th standard at Arumanai [nediyasalai] government high school. He finished his schooling in 1978. He started writing during his school days and his first story was published in the children's magazine Rathnabala.

During his childhood days, he made extensive use of YMCA library and Arumanai government library. He then studied Malayalam novels at the Sree Chitra Library in Thiruvattar.

In 1979, he studied the introductory commerce course at Marthandam Christian College (now Nesamani Memorial). He joined for Bachelor of Commerce course in 1980, at Pioneer Kumaraswamy College, Nagercoil. He continued his studies till 1982 but did not complete it.

Work

In 1984, Jeyamohan joined as a temporary employee in Kasargod telephone department at Kerala.

Family

Jeyamohan married S. Arunmozhinangai. She worked in the telephone industry and retired voluntarily. She published a collection of biographical articles titled Pani Uruguvathillai (Snow does not melt). They have two children: Ajithan and Chaitanya.

Literary Life

Early Publications

While in Kasaragod in 1986, Jeyamohan wrote a short story, Nuraikumizhi (Foam Bubble). This was published in Kalki magazine’s July 12, 1987 issue. Story was centered on the conjugal issue. It is to be noted that he was 24 years old at the time.

His poetry Kaithi (Prisoner) was published in 1987 in 'Kollipavai' magazine run by Kattaikadu Rajagopalan.
